Of local manufacture, two-piece insignia in silver, the centrepiece illustrating the Kingdom of Afghanistan coat-of-arms, surrounded by an inscription in Arabic,  with an impressed ۳ (3) denoting third class, mounted to a blackened magnetic metal base with multi-rayed arms consisting of three wide-pointed ends alternating with another three sharp-pointed ends, measuring 71.7 mm (w) x 70.5 mm (h), weighs 58.96 grams, vertical pinback, scattered blackening wear evident on the reverse, near extremely fine.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eFootnote: The Order of Independence (Nishan-i-Istiqlal) was established by King Habibu'llah Shah in 1911. The Order is conferred to both military and civil personnel in recognition of outstanding service provided to the State. The Order was reorganized by King Amanu'llah in 1924 and is believed to have been later modified again in 1929.
