North West Medal to the (Toronto) Royal Grenadiers - SASKATCHEWAN (PTE. J. GRIFFIN Rl. GREN.). Naming has been removed and privately impressed. Light contact, better than very fine. Accompanied by ten colour photocopies with mention of Griffin in the History of the 10th Royals and of the Royal Grenadiers as being in the North West Campaign, on the list of those receiving the North West Canada Medal, plus 58th Roll Call and 60th Roll Call Documents. Footnote: Private John Griffin was with the 10th Battalion, Royal Grenadiers. They were mobilized detachments for active service on April 10, 1885, which served with Middleton's Column of the North West Field Force at Batoche and Fish Creek, until they were removed from active service on July 24, 1885. The force comprised 270 officers and men, who answered their First Roll Call on March 30, 1885. Griffin was listed on the 58th Roll Call with No. 2 Service Company in 1941 but by the time the 60th Roll Call was released in 1943, he was one of five men who were listed as having Answered Their Last Roll Call, Griffin having passed away in September of that year, at the age of 78.
