Canada; George V (2626949 Pte. J. WRIGHT). Sterling silver, marked "STERLING" and hallmarked on the reverse, on its original full-length frayed neck ribbon, contact marks and surface wear, very fine.
Footnote: John Wright was born on July 1, 1871 in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. He was a resident of Columbus, Ohio when he signed his Attestation Paper as a Private (2626949) on November 14, 1917 at the Mobilization Centre in London, Ontario, at the age of 46, naming his next-of-kin as his wife, Zella Wright of Columbus (later of Swiss Cottage, Niton, Isle of Wight, England), stating that he had thirteen years' previous service with the Field Artillery, that he was Married and that his trade was that of Cook. The doctor noted during his medical examination that Wright had tattoos on his right and left arms. He served with the Canadian Forestry Corps during the First World War, with only his Attestation Paper accessible on the Library and Archives Canada website. 2626949 Private John Wright, Canadian Forestry Corps died on May 22, 1920 and is buried in Bloomingdale (Brookside) Cemetery, Bloomingdale, New York, United States of America, Grave Reference: Lot 55. He is commemorated on page 554 of the First World War Book of Remembrance.
