Germany, Heer. A Panzer NCO’s Visor Cap, by Clemens Wagner

(Heer Schirmmütze). Constructed of field-grey wool. The cap features reinforced side walls, fully lined with a dark green wool cap band. Rose-pink woven piping surrounds the circumference of the crown, as well as the top and bottom of the cap band. Pinned onto the peak is an insignia in the form of an aluminum Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. The eagle retains all three of its reverse attachment prongs and measures 65 mm (w) x 25 mm (h). Pinned onto the cap band underneath the eagle is a tri-colour cockade, constructed of non-ferrous magnetic metal and red felt, set within an aluminum oak leaf wreath. The latter measures 60 mm (w) x 45 mm mm (h). It is flanked on each side by a black-painted magnetic metal button securing in place a black leather chinstrap, in turn adjusted with dual black-painted magnetic metal buckles. When not in use, the chinstrap rests upon a protruding vulcanfibre visor, finished in black on the obverse and in brown on the reverse. The interior features a 40 mm-wide black leather sweatband, securely held in place by a row of machine stitching. A brown oilcloth liner fully encompasses the interior, with a transparent plastic rhomboid moisture guard stitched onto the crown. Underneath the moisture guard is a black ink size stamp of “54 ½”. The sweatband folds down to reveal dual makers/distributor marks, including one of “CLEMENS WAGNER, BRAUNSCHWEIG 1938”, and one of “FRANZ RITTER, VORM. KARL ROTH, DETTINGEN, 1939”. A magnetic metal ring inserted into the crown maintains the structural integrity of the cap. It measures approximately 238 mm (w) x 245 mm (l) x 150 mm (h). Small, sporadic patches of mothing are evident to the exterior wool, along with some fatigue of the leather and vulcanfibre elements. It is in an overall very fine condition.
