Germany, Heer. A Named Heeresverwaltung Korpsintendant Dress Tunic, by Walther Stollmann

(Heeresverwaltung Dienstrock). A Heeresverwaltung (Army Administration) dress tunic, constructed of smooth field-grey wool. The tunic features a forest-green wool collar that is fully trimmed with dark green piping. It is flanked on each side by tabs constructed of dark green wool and trimmed on three sides with bright red piping. Each tab bears a hand-embroidered gold bullion wire insignia and measures 45 mm (w) x 90 mm (l). The shoulders are adorned with boards of multi-piece construction, each consisting of a cardboard-reinforced green wool base, overlaid by red wool. Each in turn bears dual bands of gold bullion wire piping interwoven with a central band of silver aluminum wire piping, and is pinned with a silvered bronze Heeresverwaltung (HV) cypher. The boards both measure 42 mm (w) x 90 mm (l) and are secured to the tunic with machine stitching at the outer edge and by a gilded, pebbled magnetic metal button on the inner edge. The cuff of each sleeve is rolled up to a depth of 155 mm and is held in place by two pieces of machine stitching. The breast flaps each have two pockets, all opening with stylized horizontal flaps bearing reinforced buttonholes, in turn meeting gilded, pebbled magnetic metal buttons. Above the upper right breast flap is an insignia in the form of a green wool patch bearing a detailed hand-embroidered gold bullion wire Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. The eagle measures 100 mm (w) x 45 mm (h). Above the upper left pocket are three vertically-arranged threaded loops for the accommodation of a ribbon bar. The tunic closes with five gilded, pebbled magnetic metal buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap, while both flaps also bear a continuation of the dark green piping emanating from the collar. The interior features a complete field-grey rayon liner, transitioning into an off-white lining through the sleeves. A single interior pocket, opening with a reinforced horizontal slit, is located at the top of the left breast flap. Inside the pocket is a maker’s label inscribed “WALTHER STOLLMANN, MÜNSTER”, with a date of “5. 8. 39” and an owner’s name appearing to read “COLNEN” or “COLLMAN”. An additional machine-embroidered Stollmann label is located underneath the collar. A reinforced flap for a dagger hanger appears beneath the interior pocket. The interior features are completed with dual magnetic metal hooks set into the right of the collar, meeting an equal number of magnetic metal loops on the left, facilitating a flush fit with the wearer’s neck. The tunic measures approximately 490 mm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 635 mm and an overall body length of 695 mm. Several of the tunic buttons have been replaced with period original examples, and minor material fatigue and soiling are evident to the exterior and interior, respectively. The tunic is in an overall extremely fine condition.
