Awarded to Major Gerhard T?rke, for bravery and leadership at Stalingrad; Cross with magnetic core and silver frame, marked "800" on reverse of the frame, silver loop marked "800" and "65", textbook example by maker "Klein & Quenzer", cross measures 48.6x54.73mm. Mounted on a lovely short original ribbon, as originally worn, in extremely fine condition. Sold with eight original photos of Major T?rke, along with period publication cutout titled "Den Tapfersten von Sstalingrad" (to brave ones at Stalingrad) mentioning his name; also German publication "Knight?s Cross Winners", detailing Major Gerhard T?rke?s military background and exploits at Stalingrad. Major T?rke participated in campaigns in: Memel; Poland; Western Front; Russia (won KC 17/12/1942, at Stalingrad); Italy; Defence of Germany; he survived the War.
