Germany, Third Reich. A Social Welfare Decoration, III Class, by Gebrüder Godet & Co.

(Ehrenzeichen für deutsche Volkspflege, III. Klasse mit Etui). Instituted 1 May 1939. (1939-1945 issue). Constructed of gilded bronze with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Geneva Cross, the obverse with white enameled arms, overlaid by a central black enameled NSDAP-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, with featuring highlighted in gilt, unmarked, measuring 40.25 mm (w) x 44.75 mm (h), weighing 16.4 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of heavy card stock with a faux red leather exterior, the interior with a padded blue satin lid liner, retaining a ribbon band bearing an inscription of “EHRENZEICHEN FÜR DEUTSCHE VOLKSPFLEGE 3. STUFE”, with a depressed black velvet medal bed, opening with a functional spring catch with exterior stud release and a functional metal hinge, the exterior embossed with a maker’s mark of “GEBR. GODET & CO., BERLIN, CHARLOTTENSTR. 55”, measuring 66 mm (w) x 70 mm (l) x 26 mm (h), with some flecking evident to the enamels of the cross and material fatigue of the case, in overall near extremely fine condition.
