Germany, Imperial. Three Medals, Awards, and Decorations

1) Hanover, Kingdom. An 1866 Langensalza Medal by Jauner; (Langensalza-Medaille). Instituted on 27 June 1866 by King George V of Hanover. A medal constructed of brass-bronze (“Messingbronze”), the obverse shows the head of the founder looking toward the left, circled by the inscription “GEORG V v, G. KOENIG v. HANNOVER,” the reverse presents an open laurel wreath tied down, inscription reads “LANGENSALZA / 17. JUNI/1866,” maker mark “JAUNER” in the neck section of the founder’s head on obverse, measures 36.10 mm in diameter, weighs 19.6 g, eyelet affixed to the medal and on ring for suspension from period original white and yellow ribbon, and in very fine condition.

2) Prussia, Kingdom. A War Commemorative Medal of 1870 - 1870; (Die Kriegsdenkmünze für den Feldzug 1870-71). A medal constructed of bronze captured cannon barrels, the obverse shows the crowned royal cypher of William I over the inscription “Dem siegreichen Heere” (“To the victorious army”), inscribed around the edge is “Gott war mit uns, ihm sei die Ehre” (“God was with us, to Him be the glory”), the reverse presents a cross with rays between the four arms, the centre of the cross is a laurel wreath surrounded by the dates 1870 and 1871, on the edge of the coin is inscribed “AUS EROBERTEM GESCHUETZ” (“FROM CONQUERED CANNON”), measures 29.13 mm in diameter, weighs 14.2 g, eyelet affixed to medal and on ring for suspension from period original ribbon, and in fine condition.

3) Germany, Weimar. An Honour Cross of the World War 1914/1918 by Ernst Schneider; (Das Ehrenkreuz des Weltkriegs 1914/1918). A bronzed iron (magnetic) cross pattée, swords cross between the arms, the obverse shows a laurel wreath surrounding the dates 1914 and 1918, the reverse smooth and stamped with the maker mark “ESL” for Ernst Schneider of Lüdenscheid, measures 37.46 mm (w) x 41.49 mm (h), on ring through eyelet and suspended from period original ribbon, and in extremely fine condition. 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
