Type III. A silver gilt sun burst with a twelve arms white enameled star each with a ball finial, centre with blue enamel ans silver gilt centre plate, motto hand engraved along ribbon between arms, an eagle adorned swivel crown with blue enamels, measuring 44 mm (w) x 68 mm (h - inclusive of crown with horizontally pierced ball and cross suspension), on fine period blue ribbon, near very fine.
Footnote: Instituted in 1811, the Type I & Type II awards were crafted in gold. The order was abolished in 1815, however further types were produced in the mid 19th Century.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960.
