A Republic of Yugoslavia Order of People’s Hero Document to General Dušan Ćorković

Award Document for Order of Peoples Hero (Order of National Hero), in parchment, large size (36cm x 70 cm), with seal attached, numbered #121, and dated 23.7.1952, in mint condition; in matching red leather bound container, this in near mint condition. A rare document in excellent condition.

Footnote: Dušan Ćorković was born in Petrinja, Croatia, on 2. November 1921. Before the outbreak of WW2 he graduated from Naval NCO academy. Soon after the outbreak of the War, he returned to Petrinja and joined Partisans in 1941. Soon after he joined First Proletarian Brigade, an elite unit, and he fought soon afterwards in Slavonia, northern Croatia. He distinguished himself as one of most capable and brave partisans, fighting hard fought battles against the Germans and Ustasha units. His clever and decisive actions brought him numerous promotions, and he continued to command ever larger units, eventually commanding the 33d Division of the Yugoslav People’s Army by the end of the War. He died in 1980 in Zagreb. He was buried in the tomb of the National Heroes in the cemetery Mirogoj, in Zagreb.
