A First War Ukrainian Sich Riflemen Cap Badge 1914

(Українські Січові Стрільці): Bronze with blue enamels, unmarked but likely fabricated in Vienna, Austria, inscribed with the cyrillic acronym ".Y.C.C." (Українські Січові Стрільці = Ukrainian Sich Riflemen) above the date "1914", 34.5 mm, intact enamels, extremely fine.

Footnote: The Ukrainian Sich Riflemen (USS) was a Ukrainian battalion within the Austro-Hungarian army. The USS was active in the defense of the Eastern Front in the First World War from 1914 to 1917. Following the conclusion of hostilities, the Riflemen formed the basis of the Ukrainian Galician Army (UGA), the military arm of the West Ukrainian National Republic (ZUNR), and the regular army of the Ukrainian National Republic (UNR).
