Sweden, Kingdom. An Order of the North Star, Grand Cross Collar Chain, by C. F. Carlman, c.1900

(Nordstjärneorden). Instituted 1748 by King Frederick I. Type II (1844-1975). 1875-Present Issue. Of high quality manufacture, a scarce Collar’s chain of the order, constructed of silver gilt, consisting of eleven finely enameled white five-pointed star with beaded borders, interlinked with eleven enameled blue back-to-back crowned cyphre of King Frederick I, plain reverse, each link is separated on the top via five small ring links and on the bottom via seven small ring links, with a loop pinback on the central link and two loop pin with eye directly opposite the central link, measuring 117 cm of length, accompanied by original hardshell corrugated case in red-wine color, with interior lid in red silk and deep red velvet bed, presenting crowned maker label on interior lid of C. F. Carlman, main jeweler in Stockholm, measuring 327 mm (w) x 25 mm (h) x 230 mm (l), with three functional clasp and catch, one on the front and two on the sides, exterior showing minor wear surfaces on the edges, case extremely very fine condition.

Footnote: The Order of the North Star was founded by King Frederick I on April 28, 1748. It was conferred upon Swedish citizens and foreigners for achievements in the fields of science, art, and literature, as well for meritorious service to the state. Since the 1975 amendment, the Order has been conferred exclusively upon members of the Swedish Royal Family and foreigners.
