(Real y Militar Orden de San Hermenegildo). Instituted in 1814 by King Ferdinand VII. Queen Isabella II issue. An exquisite example consisting of a white enameled Pateé Cross in Gold, with obverse centre in light blue enamels exhibiting a detailed superposed figure of St. Hermenegild in Gold, encircled by a dark blue enameled border inscribed by PREMIO A LA CONSTANCIA MILITAR (Award to Military Constancy), the reverse depicting the embossed cypher of King Ferdinand VII of Spain surrounded by an enameled blue border, surmounted by a typical Royal Spanish crown in Gold, measuring 33.71 mm (w) x 54.04 mm (h - inclusive of the integral surmounted cross), 20.7 grams, with minor enamel loss to centres and single enamel flak to reverse 6 o'clock arm, very fine.


This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
