Type II, Issued 1903-1941. Sash Badge in silver gilt and high detailed white enameled eagles, red and white enamel centre with blue enameled ribbon suspension adorned by swivel gilt crown, measuring 47 mm (w - measured from ribbon ends) x 90 mm (h - inclusive of crown, horizontally pierced ball suspension and cross), with enamel loss, unmarked however depicting the strong manufacturing characteristics of French manufacture Arthus Bertrand of Paris, on fine original silk sash, near very fine. Large and impressive Grand Cross star in silver gilt, hand filed detailing throughout, with double headed eagle in gilt and white enamels affixed by two rivets, crown and blue enameled ribbon separately affixed by single rivet, measuring 89 mm (w) x 93 mm (h) x reverse with Bertrand style pin assembly, with enamel damage to centre, toned silver, near extremely fine. Scarcely awarded.


This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
