Russia, Imperial. An Order of Saint Vladimir in Gold, 35-Year Long Service Cross by Keibel, c.1866

Instituted 22 September 1782 by Catherine II. (1866 issue). A beautiful award manufactured in Gold with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with red and black enameled arms, the obverse with a central medallion depicting a hand-painted monogram of Vladimir the Great, the three and nine o’clock arms with Cyrillic inscription of “35 ЛѢТ” (“35 YEARS”), the reverse with central black enameled medallion with Cyrillic inscription of “22 СЕНТАБРЯ 1782” (“22 SEPTEMBER 1782”), with identical arm inscriptions, in addition to a Romanov royal warrant on the 12 o’clock arm and Cyrillic initials “ІК” for maker Julius Keibel, the suspension loop for a stamped date of “1866”, a Gold content mark of “56”, and the symbol of the city of St. Petersburg, measuring 34.51 mm (w) x 38.55 mm (h), weighing 6.5 grams, accompanied by its period original case of issue, constructed of heavy card stock with a faux red leather exterior, the obverse lid with a gold embossed Romanov imperial eagle, the interior with a padded white satin-type lid liner, depressed white felt removable medal bed, opening with a functional bronze snap button, measuring 57 mm (w) x 80 mm (l) x 28 mm (h), in better than very fine condition.
