Blade in silvered iron, magnetic and curved in design, incorporating a beveled edge facing a serrated edge along the spine, with a cutlass blood groove on both sides, dull tip, the blade measuring 495 mm in length and measuring 50 mm in width at the serrated portion on the blade, the handle in bronze with a ribbed grip and a flattened ball pommel, marked "808" and maker marked in Russian "ГП" (GP) and "AG" on the 106 mm long crossguard, the handle measuring 170 mm in length, the sword measuring 665 mm in length overall, exhibiting moderate surface rust on the blade and light contact on the handle. Very fine.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
