(Орден Святого Станислава). Instituted by King Stanislaus in 1765. An early award that has been refurbished and restored, likely in the mi 20th Century, consisting of a black-enamelled Maltese cross with ball finials in Gold, exhibiting Russian imperial eagles in each quadrant also in Gold, with additional rayed arcs between the tips of each arm, obverse centre superposing by red-enamelled “SS” letters (for Sancte Stanislaus), with an enameled white background, encircling by an enameled green laurel wreath, reverse centre showing a hand-painted “SS” in red on a white-enamelled background, integral ring marked “56” (for 14 Kt. Gold) as well as indistinguishable date and maker’s mark, measuring 53.69 mm (w) x 53.33 mm (h - inclusive of integral ring), weighing 17.6 grams, with loss of three ball finials, the 9 o’clock ball finial is several bent, enamel restored, eagles reaffixed, enamel flaking to reverse, split suspension ring, poor/fair.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
