Russia, Imperial. A Medal for the Pacification of Hungary and Transylvania, c. 1849
Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised Romanov-style imperial eagle clutching an orb and sceptre, circumscribed by a Church Slavonic inscription reading “GOD IS WITH US, PEOPLE TAKE HEED AND SUBMIT”, the reverse bearing a raised Russian Cyrillic inscription of “ЗА УСМИРЕНІЕ ВЕНГРІИ И ТРАНСИЛЬВАНІИ 1849” (“FOR THE PACIFICATION OF HUNGARY AND TRANSYLVANIA 1849”), the integral loop bearing an illegible silver hallmark, measuring 29.11 in diameter, weighing 11.0 grams, with some age-appropriate wear of the silver evident, in overall better than very fine condition.
