An Exquisite Order of the Dutch Lion; 2nd Class Knight Commander with Case c.1850

An exquisite set of awards beginning with a neck badge in gold with white and blue enamels, weighing 40.7 grams inclusive of its ribbon, unmarked, measuring 55.8 mm x 86.5 mm inclusive of its crown suspension, on a full-length folded-over ribbon sewn in place with black threading on one side, suspended from a black ribbon that is tied off in a bow-tie. Breast Star: lettering "VIRTUS NOBILI TAT" in rolled silver bullion wire on a blue embroidered background forming the centrepiece, the centrepiece ringed in silver wire, sequins and loops, the arms in silver sequins and trimmed in rolled wire, surmounted by a crown in gold-coloured rolled bullion wire, with maroon felt in the void of the crown and on its underside, along with blue and pinkish-red embroidery in the crown's base, 56.7 mm x 80.5 mm, reverse with a glazed backer and vertical pinback. Near mint. In its hardshelled case of issue, Netherlands coat-of-arms on the lid, maker's labels inscribed "FIRMA J.M.J. van WIELIK HOFLEVERANCIER 'S HAGE" on the inside lid and on the bottom, raised platform with dual recessed medal beds, dual swing hook closures, soiling and wear evident on the exterior, case very fine.
