Italy, Kingdom. A 3rd CCNN Division Scire Region of Ethiopia Campaign Commemorative Medal

(Camicie Nere = Black Shirts). In bronze, obverse illustrating a downward-pointing sword being thrust into a rock, with a mountain and trees in the background, the rock inscribed "SCIRE" (a region of Ethiopia), surrounded by the inscriptions "3a DIVISIONE CC.NN.XXI APRILE" above and "29 febbraio - 3 marzo XIV" below, reverse illustrating the wolf of Rome nursing the two brothers insignia, flanked by fasces on either side, inscribed "ROMA: NOMEN ET OMEN" above and a figure-eight tied rope below, measuring 34.8 in diameter, spotting, near extremely fine. Footnote: The 3rd CCNN Division (CCNN = Camicie Nere, Black Shirts; also known as 3rd CCNN Division XXI Aprile) was one of the seven Black Shirt militia Divisions that were organized and fought in the Second Italo-Abyssinian War. The name "21 Aprile" was in honour of the legendary date of the founding of Rome, and also the date of the publication of the Manifesto of the Fascist Intellectuals on April 21, 1925. Its commander was Generale di Divisione Giacomo Appiotti. Scire was the name of the Ethiopian region, which at the time was part of Italian East Africa.
