(Guelphen-Orden). Instituted 1815. A typical of the period reduced silver grand cross star, consisting of an exquisitely hand filed multi ray star, obverse centre in Gold, presenting a white hand painted Hanoverian horse on a red enameled background, with blue enamel surround with motto in hand etched Gold lettering Nec Aspera Terrent (Not afraid of difficulties), fine green enameled laurels in Gold, with separably affixed Gold crossed swords, reverse displaying the hand engraved makers cartouche of Hamlet Goldsmith & Jeweller to His Majesty, & His Royal Highnefses, DUKE OF YORK, & Royal Family. Princes St. Leicester Sqe. London’, Gold pin, measuring 74 mm (w) x 73 mm (h), with pin having been delicately soldered with adhesive and fixed to hinge, reverse having been cleaned, makers plate rotated, minor enamel loss to obverse laurels, good/fine.


This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
