A 1944-1994 Arnhem 50th Anniversary Medal with Case - Metal with a gold-coloured gilt, obverse illustrating a right-facing winged Pegasus and inscribed "THE ARNHEM 50TH ANNIVERSARY MEDAL 1994" below, reverse illustrating a view of the Bridge at Arnhem with a Douglas Dakota DC3 towing a Horsa glider above, parachute wings supporting the fixed ribbon bar suspension, 37 mm, original ribbon with pinback, light contact, extremely fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, marked with the Pegasus Paratroopers' insignia and inscribed "ARNHEM 50th ANNIVERSARY MEDAL" on the lid, maker marked "SPINK & SON LTD" on the inside lid, light blue medal bed, case better than extremely fine.Footnote: This unofficial medal was issued to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem, presented by the Town Council of Oosterbeek, Netherlands, to those involved in Operation Market Garden from September 15 to 25, 1944, the daring attempt by Allied airborne forces to seize a Rhine crossing, later featured in the film "A Bridge Too Far".
