A Charge of the Light Brigade 17th Lancers Officer's Sabretache

(Duke of Cambridge's Own) Cavalry Regiment: Crimea War period, in black leather, slightly-vaulted, heavily-stitched, obverse with a multi-piece 17th Lancers insignia, featuring a silver skull and crossbones fronting crossed brass lances, surmounted by a silver crown with maroon felt in the voided areas, a ribbon banner below inscribed "OR GLORY", with "17" over "L", the latter three pieces in brass. Reverse is leather and has a leather carrying pouch, hinged along the top edge where it is stitched to the body of the sabretache, inside lined with a red lacquered panel where it butts the body of the sabretache, weather flap with dual-slotted tab and post closure at the top, upward-facing single-slotted securing strap with post closure at the bottom, the top edge with three brass D-rings fed through embedded leather loops for attachment to the rider's horse. Overall, it measures 180 mm along the top x 227 mm along the bottom x 287 mm in depth, exhibiting light contact on the brass and silver pieces of the insignia, scuff marks and wear present on the reverse of the pouch, small chip and wear evident on the red lacquered liner. A fine quality crafted item, very fine. Footnote: The 17th Lancers (Duke of Cambridge's Own) was a cavalry regiment that participated in the famous Charge of the Light Brigade on October 25, 1854 at Balaklava during the Crimean War. (C:14)
