Insignia and frame in 9K Gold, the badge incorporating a turtle shell disk, illustrating an engraved capital "A" in a flaming grenade type crest and engraved "S.S.A." in the scroll at its base, reverse marked "9" beside ".375" (9K Gold), a leopard's head (made in London), date marked "b" (1917) and marked "PATENT", along with a partial maker's mark on the frame, measuring 27.5 mm in diameter, horizontal pinback, very light contact, near extremely fine.
