Description
Description
Softcover, entitled " The Boer War Casualty Roll 1899-1902" by Alexander M. Palmer, copyrighted by the author n 1999, published and distributed by Military Minded of Perth, Western Australia, first published by Military Minded in 1999, printed and bound by Presspower Australia of Perth, ISBN 0 9577097 0 6. It begins with an Author's Note, where Palmer explains that this book was compiled from the information obtained from the Oaklands South Africa Field Force Casualty List 1899-1902, the Natal Casualty List, along with biographical details extracted from the Last Post, going on to state: "In many instances, the same name appears with a different unit number, an identical unit number appears with a different name and people randomly appear to change regiment. I have not attempted to reconcile these differences. Rather, I have left all the information in the role to assist the reader in his or her research." This is followed by two pages of Definitions, explaining all the abbreviations used in the book. The body of the text contains a set of eight columns of information: 1 - the surname of the soldier, 2 - the soldier's initials, 3 - his service number, 4 - his rank and the type of casualty incurred (e.g. killed in action, died from disease, wounded, injured, prisoner of war, etc), 5 - the place where it occurred, 6 - the date it happened, 7 - pertinent remarks, 8 - the unit he was serving with at the time. There are footnotes inserted at various locations throughout the book, with information on various officers taken from the existing records. The book contains 800 pages, printed in black ink, on a white paper stock, measuring 210 mm (w) x 297 mm (h) x 43 mm (d). It exhibits some separation of the sections from the spine, with the central section "floating freely" from the binding, along with edge wear and creasing on the cover, however, the text in the book remains unaffected. A terrific resource book for collectors of the Queen's South Africa Medal and the King's South Africa Medal, along with any individual interested in their family history and the soldiers represented in it. Fine.
Reference Guide Shipping Policy: An additional shipping charge may be applicable following the time of purchase due to size, weight, and quantity. Please note that books cannot be shipped via Canada Post Flat Tracked method.
