Germany. A Kriegsmarine Destroyer War Badge
An early-mid war example of a “Zerstörerkriegsabzeichen”; gilded and silvered tombac oval laurel wreath, with a national eagle perched on the top of the badge clutching a denazified swastika - it has been removed through filing, with a side-view of a destroyer cutting through a wave, with the bow of the ship extending over the wreath; plain reverse, with a center catch for stabilization and a horizontal banjo style pinback with a barrel hinge and a round wire catch; unmarked, but displaying typical manufacturing characteristics of “B.H Mayer’s Kunstrprägeanstalt, Pforzheim”; measuring 45.81 mm (w) x 53.62 mm (h); weighing 26.1 grams; with the gilt and silver finish well preserved; a denazified example; in overall better than very fine condition.
