An Early Luftwaffe Sword by E. & F. Hörster & Company, Solingen; Measuring 925 mm, with the scabbard on, this sword features a 720 mm nickel-plated steel blade, with a semi-sharp edge, remaining bright and crisp, and having an extremely sharp tip. The blade's ricasso is maker marked with the E. & F. Hörster & Company Gmbh, Solingen insignia below a the government acceptance mark of a framed "5", number stamped "108", along with a centrally placed fuller on both sides that runs half the length of the blade from the crossguard. It retains its crossgraining, exhibiting scratching overall, common to extraction and return to the scabbard, along with scattered edge nicks, natural shine present, extremely fine. Blue/black Moroccan leather washer is supple and remains intact. The fittings are silvered nickel, the crossguard arms are tapered downward in a tripartite design, with fine feathering throughout, exhibiting crisp detail, complemented by the circular gilt Swastika insignia in the centre on both sides. The underside of one arm of the crossguard is engraved with the unit name "/Flea.47I". The wooden based grip is wrapped in blue/black Moroccan grip leather, exhibiting light wear in the leather, accented by nine rows of tight, silvered springy wire which remains intact. The pommel also has large gilt circular swastikas on both sides, trimmed on the edge with repeating clusters of oak leaves and acorns, with scattered edge nicks, the sword measuring 892 mm in length overall. The scabbard has silvered nickel fittings at both ends, wrapped in the same blue/black Moroccan leather as the sword's grip, the leather intact, exhibiting light wear on the obverse, with a ball finial on the chape, engraved on the reverse of the lightly contacted locket with the unit name "/Flea.47I" and "108", the chape and locket held firmly in place via two screws each, complemented by two hanger rings, housing the original crescent hanger in blue/black Moroccan leather with an aluminum box clip at the top, the scabbard measuring 748 mm in length. Extremely fine.
