A Prime Example of the Chained SS Dagger

What is to be noted with regards to this piece is the simply outstanding condition of its blade. At 220 mm, this nickel-plated steel blade, with unsharpened edges, remaining bright and crisp, and exhibits a sharp tip. The blade's ricasso is unmarked, while the "Meine Ehre Heist Treue" SS Motto deeply etched and well detailed. It retains its crossgraining, exhibiting light wear near the crossguard, in addition to faint scratches overall, common to extraction and return to the scabbard, natural shine, it stands in extremely fine condition. Fittings on this dagger are nickel plated, marked "P A", showing moderate use and wear. The eagle insignia on the handle is nicely detailed and sits upon a smooth, black painted hardwood handle, with the enamelled SS crest emblazoned near the nickel pommel, with a solid, clean pommel nut. The SS crest shows some signs of wear, while the handle has only a few scratches on the obverse. The scabbard is magnetic, complete with nickel fittings at either end and a ball finial. There are light contact marks on the chape, the mid panel and some scratching on the locket, while the black painted body has experienced multiple contact marks and the ball finial is dented, with all screws present. The attached chain is also magnetic, exhibiting crisp detail in the insignias, SS marked on the reverse of one link, with moderate wear. Although the dagger shows signs of period use overall, it is a prime example of quality German craftsmanship that remains in extremely fine condition. (Originally purchased from Wittman)
