Germany, Luftwaffe. A II Pattern Officer’s Dagger, by Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co.

(Luftwaffe Dolch). Measuring 435 mm in length when inserted into the scabbard, this dagger features a 270 mm-long magnetic metal blade with semi-sharpened edges and a sharpened tip. The blade presents plain with the exception of a maker’s mark of “WKC, SOLINGEN”, along with the company’s logo of a knight’s helmet, near the reverse ricasso. The blade is firmly set into a feinkzink crossguard, the obverse of which bears a finely-detailed Luftwaffe eagle in mid-flight, clutching a mobile swastika. The crossguard transitions into a ring, bearing stylized oak leaves across its circumference, connecting to a knotted white celluloid handle wrapped with twisted copper wire. The dagger completes with a feinzink pommel, with two-sided designs consisting of a central raised mobile swastika inside of an oak leaf wreath with acorns at the top and bottom. The dagger is accompanied by its original scabbard, constructed of pebbled magnetic metal, with raised oak leaves and acorns adorning each side of the tip. The scabbard is surrounded by dual feinzink rings, decorated with oak leaves, bearing magnetic metal loop for the accommodation of a dagger hanger. The throat of the scabbard is held together by a single rivet and retains a functional spring catch for secure storage of the dagger when not in use. Minor chipping is evident to the edges of the blade, along with running marks, and there is slight fatigue to the celluloid handle and age-appropriate tarnishing throughout. The dagger is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
