Germany, SS. A Waffen-SS Oak Leaf “A” Pattern Camouflage Reversible Winter Parka
(Waffen-SS Tarnparka). A rare and extremely well-preserved Waffen-SS camouflage reversible winter parka, constructed of weatherproof cotton-rayon blended material with interior padding. The exterior of the parka is dyed in a classic oak leaf “A” pattern mottle, consisting of a light brown base overlaid by irregular splotches of light, medium, and dark green, for use in spring conditions. Emanating from the collar is a multi-piece hood, reinforced throughout the seams with heavy machine stitching. The cuff of each sleeve features a hollow channel through which is looped a cotton twill drawstring, with the latter meeting a pebbled zink button affixed to the exterior of the arm, allowing for an air-tight fit in inclimate weather conditions. Dual side pockets are set into the lower half of the breast flaps, both closing with classic SS-style scalloped flaps and reinforced buttonholes meeting pebbled zink buttons (with the left pocket missing its button). The waistband also features a hollow channel with a cotton twill drawstring emanating from both ends at the front, allowing the waist to be comfortably adjusted. The spring pattern side features six magnetic metal buttons on the left breast, hidden by a protective camouflage flap, meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the opposite flap. The reverse presents with an all-white finish for use in winter conditions, and with fully analogous features. The parka’s attention to detail includes the use of white pressed card stock breast and pocket buttons on the winter side, allowing for functionality without compromising camouflage. The winter side also features a suspension loop set into the back of the collar, and is stamped with a mark of “2” just beneath it. The parka is otherwise unmarked. It measures approximately 520 mm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 560 mm, and an overall body length of 670 mm. Minor material wear consistent with age and field use is evident, and includes fatigue to high contact points such as the cuffs, with sporadic holes elsewhere, and soiling to the winter side. The parka is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
