A Field Grey Waffen-SS Infantry Obersturmführer Officer’s Tunic
This is a very fine quality and very well preserved Waffen-SS uniform tunic. There is no evidence of any pips having been removed from the boards, so this tunic would have been attributed to an Obersturmführer rank. The tunic features two horizontal-slit breast pockets, one on each side, both covered with a flap, and secured shut with one metal (magnet) pebbled grain cap buttons each. There are also two larger horizontal-slit pockets, one on each side, at waist height. Again, each pocket is covered with a flap, and secured shut with one metal (magnetic) pebbled grain button each. Six matching (magnetic) pebbled grain cap buttons run vertically along the opening of the tunic, with button holes on the opposite side, with all buttons showing light wear. All buttons show wear some marks. Two vertically fastened hook closures on the collar opening ensure a snug fit. The Waffen-SS sleeve eagle is constructed of hand embroidered heavy silver bullion, superimposed on black wool, and with buckram backing (a coarse cotton fabric stiffened with glue). The Waffen-SS Obersturmführer rank collar tabs consisting of a right hand side SS runic collar tab, displaying shiny metallic runes, on a black wool base Silver bullion has become loose but easily repairable. The left hand side rank collar tab features three silvered rank pips and two silvery rank stripes, also on a black wool base. Both are edged in twisted silver piping, while the reverse of both tabs feature a standard buckram base. The Waffen-SS shoulder boards are constructed of twisted silvery russian braids, with white (Infantry) Waffenfarbe underneath, all superimposed on a top black wool base, and one gilded pip signifying the rank of Obersturmführer. The interior of the tunic features a matching field grey liner constructed out of a cotton/rayon blend, and is completely intact, with only one minor rip near the bottom of the tunic. The tunic features a large horizontal-slit pocket at breast-height, lined with a cotton blend fabric, and a smaller horizontal-slit pocket at waist-height with the dagger hanger belt strip with the dagger hanger clip (marked DRGM) in perfect condition in between. The sleeve liners are matching and also perfectly intact. There are no markings on the interior of the tunic of any kind. The tunic is in extremely fine condition, medium in size, and although it does appear worn, it was worn very lightly, as there are no stains and no traces of soiling anywhere on the tunic, with only the insignia displaying some signs of wear, as well as there being a small rip (approximately 45 mm) the interior liner where the threads have become loose. Desirable and Rare.
