Germany, RMfdbO. A Reich Ministry for the Occupied Eastern Territories (RMfdbO) Officer’s Greatcoat

(Reichsministerium für die besetzten Ostgebiete Überrock). This is an extremely well-preserved Reich Ministry for the Occupied Eastern Territories (RMfdbO) officer’s greatcoat constructed of a brown wool exterior with a complete grey wool and rayon interior liner. The collar, dark brown in colour, is neatly lined from end-to-end with twisted gold bullion wire “Waffenfarbe” trim, indicating that this greatcoat was worn by a high-level officer of the RMfdbO. The upper left arm bears a machine-embroidered, rightward-facing “Parteiadler-” style grey thread German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika on a dark brown background, measuring 100 mm (w) x 58 mm (h). The cuffs of both arms are turned up to a depth of 155 mm and securely held in place by stitching at the front and rear. The breasts of the tunic each bear a single pocket, opening with diagonally-slit, reinforced wool flaps. Each breast has a row of six magnetic metal buttons bearing raised Parteiadler designs parallel to an equal row of reinforced buttonholes, allowing for double-buttoning of the greatcoat. The lower reverse has a 660 mm vertical slit with four pebbled zinc buttons meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes if desired closed, while the top bears a detachable wool belt secured at each end by a magnetic metal button bearing a raised Parteiadler. All magnetic metal buttons on the greatcoat are stamped on the reverse “HOCHFEINE QUALITÄT” (“Very Fine Quality”) and with the stylized “A” logo of Assmann & Sohne, Lüdenscheid. The interior of the greatcoat is fully lined with a thick grey wool liner, transitioning to a rayon liner through the sleeves. The interior left breast has two horizontally-arranged pockets opening with reinforced horizontal slits. The greatcoat is unmarked and measures approximately 510 mm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 640 mm and body length of 1220 mm. Some of the breast buttons show evidence of having been reattached, but the greatcoat presents in an otherwise extremely fine condition.
