Germany, Luftwaffe. A Scarce Pair of Fallschirmjäger Jump Trousers, Model I
(Hose für Fallschirmjäger). A rare field-used pair of Fallschirmjäger jump trousers, constructed of dark blue-grey wool twill. The waistband features six belt loops, with the back featuring two additional loops emanating from the exterior and connecting to a pair of zink buttons for the accommodation of uniform suspenders. The trousers also feature an integrated belt system consisting of dual side wool straps looped through magnetic metal buttons for an adjustable fit. A French fly closes the trousers, and consists of three black bakelite buttons on the right flap and two zink buttons on the left flap meeting analogous reinforced buttonholes on the opposite sides. Dual side pockets are located at the upper thigh of each leg, both opening with diagonal flaps bearing reinforced buttonholes, with the latter meeting zink buttons. A single back pocket is located at the upper right leg, opening with a horizontal flap with a reinforced buttonhole meeting a magnetic metal button. The trousers feature wide legs and complete with cottons straps near the ankles. A partial dark blue-grey rayon interior liner encompasses the waistband and seat, and also forms the interior of the pockets. Several intact cotton and rayon straps emanate from the liner, which also bears the partially-legible remnants of a black ink stamp which completes in “43”. The trousers are otherwise unmarked and measure approximately 420 mm across the waist, with an inseam of 325 mm, and an overall leg length of 1080 mm. Issues consistent with age and extensive field use are evident, and includes material fatigue and soiling to the wool of both the exterior and interior, as well as oxidation of the zink and metal fixtures. The scarce pair of Fallschirmjäger Hose are a variant without the side leg pocket. This variant, issued in 1943-44 is extremely scarce and despite obvious field wear, this set remains in worn but fine condition.
