Germany, Luftwaffe. A Flight Personnel Unteroffizier’s Tropical Service Tunic
(Luftwaffe Tropenfeldbluse). A well-preserved Luftwaffe Flight Personnel Unteroffizier’s tropical service tunic, constructed of tan-coloured cotton twill. The tunic features an integrated collar, reinforced with rear dart stitching. Each shoulder bears a strap, constructed of tan-coloured cotton, trimmed with golden-yellow piping, and bordered by a brown machine-embroidered tresse. The straps both measure 48 mm (w) x 105 mm (l) and are held in place by an integrated loop at the outer edge, and by a pebbled zink button on the inner edge. The cuff of each sleeve is rolled up to a depth of 75 mm and secured in place by machine stitching around the circumference. Each breast flap features two pockets, all of which opening with horizontal flaps with reinforced buttonholes meeting pebbled zink buttons. Above the upper right breast pocket is an insignia in the form of a ten-coloured cotton backer bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika. The tunic closes with six pebbled zink buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. The exterior features are completed by dual row of three vertically-arranged eyelets at the reverse, accommodating a belt hanger. There is a single interior pocket, located at the bottom of the right breast flap, and an integrated suspension loop set within the collar. Dual straps bearing six eyelets are set above the belt hanger loops. The tunic is unmarked with the exception of a size stamps of “41, 45, 96, 68, 68” at the right breast flap. It measures approximately 445 mm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 560 mm and an overall body length of 660 mm. Extensive material fatigue is consisting with use is evident to the exterior material, along with soiling and loss of brown paint to the buttons. It is in an overall very fine condition.
