A Wehrmacht Oberstabsarzt Medical Officer's Tunic

The tunic is fabricated from a fine Army bluish-green wool, while the contrasting collar is in black wool and is trimmed in blue piping. The shoulders are adorned with Major's shoulder boards, each board incorporating four rows of fine silvered aluminum wire wrapped around white cord, in an interwoven braided pattern, with a loop creating a button hole for uniform attachment at the neck end, a gilt metal snake and caduceus medical insignia affixed to the upper, on a dark blue wool base, the loop at the shoulder end housing a magnetic silvered metal button with a pebbled upper, the base of which is sewn in place to the body of the tunic, while the other end is sewn in place at the seam where the shoulder meets the sleeve. Both sides of the collar at the opening have Medical Officer's collar tabs in fine silvered aluminum wire, with the centre portions in silver rolled bullion wire, on a stiff-framed blue wool base. There are three folding catches in the collar, along with a dual hook and eye at the opening of the collar, ensuring a snug fit at the neck line. The right breast is enriched with a Army eagle insignia, in silvered bullion wire in various textures, interlaced with off-white threading giving definition to the wings, on a forest green wool base. The left breast has three horizontally-aligned vertical loops in olive green threading for placement of an award, that has since been lost to time. The front has a vertical row of eight magnetic silvered metal buttons with pebbled uppers sewn in place on the right side, facing an equal number of reinforced button holes on the left side, the buttons marked with a German eagle, "19 M" and a star flanked by an "E" on either side on their reverses. Both cuffs are in black wool, matching that used on the collar, each cuff with two tabs in fine silvered aluminum wire, with the centre portions in silver rolled bullion wire, on a stiff-framed blue wool base, each with a silvered metal button with a pebbled upper. The rear of the tunic is single-vented, each side of the venting with a rectangular recessed panel that has a scalloped flap trimmed in blue piping, each flap with three magnetic silvered metal buttons with pebbled uppers sewn in place, ensuring that the flaps remain fixed to the rectangular panels. The inside is lined in Army green rayon, with a pocket sewn in place on the left breast, a green rayon loop in each armpit at the seam where the Army green rayon interior lining meets the sleeve lining, the sleeves lined in white rayon in a stripped pattern. Stitched to the lining on either side just below each armpit is an Army green rayon belt, the right end with a silvered metal clip, the left end with a slotted receiver and when joined together, ensures a snug fit at the waist. The tunic measures 450 mm across the shoulders and 740 mm in length overall. Extremely fine.
