A Heer Artillery (Flak) Lieutenant (Leutnant) Officer's Tunic

The tunic is fabricated from a fine Army brownish-green wool, while the contrasting collar is in forest green wool. The shoulders are adorned with Lieutenant's (Leutnant) shoulder boards, each board incorporating with four rows of gray threading interlaced with fine silvered aluminum wire, wrapped around white cord, in a chevron formation, with a loop creating a button hole for uniform attachment at the neck end, gilt bronze numerals forming the number "10" affixed to the upper, on a red wool base, the loop at the shoulder end housing a silvered non-magnetic button on the right board and a silvered magnetic button on the left board, both with pebbled uppers, each board secured in place via red wool straps. Both sides of the collar at the opening have Artillery (Flak) Officer's collar tabs in gray threading interlaced with fine silvered aluminum wire, with the two centre portions in red embroidery, on a forest green wool base. There is a dual hook and eye at the opening of the collar, ensuring a snug fit at the neck line. There are four pockets on the front, one on each breast and larger ones at the waist on both sides, each designed with a decorative pleat and silvered magnetic metal buttons, each of the buttons with pebbled uppers and marked "EXTRA FEIN" (Extra Fine) on the reverse. The right breast above the pocket is enriched with a Army eagle insignia, in silvered bullion wire in various textures, interlaced with off-white threading giving definition to the wings, on a forest green wool base. There is a ribbon bar above the left breast pocket, the ribbons representing the Iron Cross 2nd Class 1939, the War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords (with crossed bronze swords clasp) and the East Medal. The left breast pocket has two pairs of vertically-aligned horizontal loops in olive green threading for the placement of awards, that have since been lost to time. The front has a vertical row of five silvered metal buttons with pebbled uppers sewn in place on the right side, the top one non-magnetic and maker marked "R.S.S." (Richard Simm & Sohne, Gablonz) on the reverse, the other four buttons magnetic and marked "EXTRA FEIN" (Extra Fine) on the reverse, facing an equal number of reinforced button holes on the left side. The sleeves have French cuffs, each of which are held in place via stitching in two locations, while the rear of the tunic is single-vented. The inside is lined in Army green rayon, with a pocket sewn in place on each breast, a slot behind the left exterior waist pocket, the mouth of which is lined in army green wool, a green rayon loop in each armpit at the seam where the Army green rayon interior lining meets the sleeve lining, the sleeves lined in white rayon in a stripped pattern. Stitched to the lining on either side at the waist is an Army green rayon belt, the right end with a silvered metal clip, the left end with a slotted receiver and when joined together, ensures a snug fit at the waist. The tunic measures 420 mm across the shoulders and 660 mm in length overall. The tunic exhibits wear on the shoulder boards and collar tabs, gilt wear on the numerals, silvering wear on the pebbled buttons, extensive wear along the collar line from active use, a large hole and off-white residue on the underside of the right sleeve near the seam, with soiling overall. As worn. (C:140)
