Saxe-Weimar, Grand Duchy. A General Honour Decoration 1914, Gold Grade
(Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen 1914 in Gold). Instituted 1914 by Grand Duke Wilhelm Ernst. (1914-1919 issue). Constructed of gilded zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse with a raised leftward-facing profile of Grand Duke Wilhelm Ernst, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with a central inscription of “DEM VERDIENST 1914” (“FOR MERIT 1914”), within an oak leaf wreath, unmarked, measuring 36.18 mm in diameter, weighing 16.7 grams, some loss of gilt evident, a late-war example in overall better than very fine condition.
