(Silberne Verdienstmedaille). Instituted 1834 by Grand Duke Carl Friedrich. (1834-1857 issue). Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse with a raised leftward-facing profile of Grand Duke Carl Friedrich, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with a central inscription of “DEM VERDIENSTE” (“FOR MERIT”), within an oak leaf wreath, unmarked, measuring 35.57 mm in diameter, weighing 26.7 grams (inclusive of ribbon), in near extremely fine condition.
