(Verdienstmedaille). Instituted 1814. Type I. A circular medal constructed of silver, the obverse bears the right facing portrait of Carolus Augustus, the reverse bears the inscription “CAROLVS AVGVSTVS MAGNVS DVX SAXONIAE” (CAROLUS AUGUSTUS THE GREAT DUKE OF SAXONY) encompassed by an oak leaf wreath tied with a ribbon at the bottom, the obverse is marked “ANDRIEU F.” on the shoulder of the portrait, on a suspension loop with red ribbon, measuring 40.46 mm (w) x 45.96 mm (h), very fine.
