Saxe-Altenburg, Duchy. A Silver Medal for Art and Science by Glaser & Sohn, c.1910
(Silberne Medaille für Kunst und Wissenschaft). Instituted 30 December 1874 by Duke Ernst I. (1908-1918). Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse with a raised leftward-facing profile of Duke Ernst II, the reverse with an inscription of “DEM VERDIENSTE UM KUNST UND WISSENSCHAFT” (“FOR MERIT IN ART AND SCIENCE”), the obverse designer marked “GENTHE” for sculptor Julie Genthe, lacking a maker’s mark but with the physical characteristics of manufacture by Glaser & Sohn, Dresden, measuring 33.00 mm in diameter, weighing 17.6 grams, in near extremely fine condition.
