(Hausorden von Hohenzollern, Ritterkreuz mit Schwertern). Instituted 18 January 1851 by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. (1864-1918 issue). Constructed of silver with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Cross Pattée with black and white enameled arms, the obverse with a central white enameled medallion bearing a hand-painted Hohenzollern Imperial Eagle, within a blue enameled ring bearing a silvered inscription of of “VOM FELS ZUM MEER” (“FROM THE CLIFFS TO THE SEA”) and green laurel branches, with crossed swords through the centerpiece, the reverse with a central white enameled medallion bearing a monogram of King Wilhelm I, within a blue enameled ring bearing a silvered institution date of “DEN 18. JANUAR 1851” and green laurel branches, with a green enameled laurel wreath through the arms, the twelve o’clock with a hollow silver crown suspension and integral loop with a period original ribbon, the six o’clock arm with a maker’s mark of “W” for the firm of Wagner & Sohn, Berlin, and a silver content number of “938”, measuring 39.60 mm (w) x 58.64 mm (h), weighing 26.8 grams (inclusive of ribbon), minor flecking of enamels evident, in overall near extremely fine condition.
