Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Grand Duchy. A Friedrich Franz Cross
(Friedrich-Franz-Kreuz). Instituted 1 August 1917 by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV. (1917-1918 issue). Constructed of gilded bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Latin Cross with pebbled arms joined through the quadrants by a laurel leaf wreath, the obverse bearing a central monogram of Grand Duke Friedrich Franz, the six o’clock arm bearing an institution date of “1917”, the twelve o’clock arm bearing a royal crown, the reverse bearing a central 1914 Iron Cross, unmarked, measuring 31.78 mm (w) x 44.32 mm (h), weighing 16.6 grams, with some oxidation evident, in near extremely fine condition.
