Germany, Ordnungspolizei. A Schutzpolizei (Protection Police) Officer’s Visor Cap by Hans Pöllmann

(Schutzpolizei Einheitsmütze). This is an extremely well-preserved Schutzpolizei (Protection Police) officer’s visor cap, constructed of smooth field-grey wool with a black wool cap band. The cap features three bands of woven, green “Waffenfarbe” piping at the top, middle, and bottom. Pinned into the peak is a silvered and blackened aluminum cockade with red felt centre, measuring 22 mm in diameter. The cap band features an Ordnungspolizei- (Order Police) style insignia badge, constructed of aluminum, depicting a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, surrounded by an oval oak leaf wreath. The cap is flanked by two pebbled buttons, with an original button on the right constructed of magnetic metal, and a replacement button on the left constructed of zink, holding in place a braided silver aluminum bullion wire chinstrap, itself ornately knotted on both ends and resting upon the visor. The visor is constructed of lacquered vulcanfibre, with a black exterior and tan interior. The cap features a tan-coloured leather sweatband covering the circumference of the interior, securely held in place by machine stitching. A complete interior liner, constructed of light-brown rayon, bears a central, transparent, rhomboid moisture guard, onto which is stamped a maker’s mark of “Hans Pöllmann, München, Barerstr. 64”, along with the manufacturer’s logo. The cap measures approximately 244 mm (w) x 280 mm (l) x 166 mm (h). There are sporadic patches of mothing to the interior and exterior, as well as some age-appropriate wear to the sweatband, but the cap is in an otherwise near extremely fine condition.
