Germany, Luftwaffe. An EM/NCO’s Visor Cap
(Luftwaffe Schirmmütze). This is a well-preserved Luftwaffe EM/NCO’s visor cap, constructed of a dark grey wool exterior with a black woven wool cap band. Three bands of golden-yellow Waffenfarbe piping ring the cap, with a single band at the top and one each at the top and bottom of the cap band, indicating flying personnel (Fliegertruppe). Pinned into the centre of the cap band is a silvered zink Luftwaffe-style winged wreath with central tri-colour cockade. The adornment is pinned into the cap with two obverse prongs and measures 130 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). The cap is flanked by two black magnetic metal rivets holding in place a black chinstrap, with two black magnetic metal adjustable buckles, that rests upon the visor when not in use. The visor itself is constructed of lacquered black vulcanfibre. The interior of the cap features a 40 mm-wide grey leather sweatband secured with a row of machine stitching, along with a complete silver-grey rayon liner. The top features an irregularly-shaped transparent moisture guard, covering an embossed maker’s mark that is now illegible. The cap measured 220 mm (w) x 255 mm (l) x 168 mm (h). One end of the chinstrap has deteriorated and has detached from the cap, there are sporadic patches of mothing, the visor has been bent and scratched, and there is soiling of the interior liner. The cap presents in an otherwise near very fine condition.
