A Rare SA General's Kepi by C. Louis Weber c.1934-1935

A Rare SA General's Kepi by C. Louis Weber c.1934-1935 - This kepi has a reinforced sidewall and visor and is covered with two colours of twill wool. The base is red twill wool, while the circular "coffee can" style top, the wrap around band and the visor are fabricated from brown twill wool. The wrap around band is decorated with a 25 mm wide band fabricated from fine gold-coloured bullion wire interlaced with white threading that begins vertically at the front, then runs left and continues around the circumference of the kepi, terminating under the existing band at the front, pinned in place via a large silvered metal button that is held together via dual prongs on its reverse. The top of the kepi and the top edge of the brown twill wool band are trimmed in twisted gold-coloured bullion wire. The front is decorated with a well-detailed silvered aluminum eagle insignia on the peak. There are ventilation holes with reinforcing eyelets in the red twill wool on either side near the top. The chocolate brown finished leather chinstrap rests upon the protruding brown twill wool visor. The chinstrap is composed of two pieces: the two ends held together via a rectangular metal loop in the centre, with each strap having its own adjustable buckle and held in place on the sides by chocolate brown posts. The underside of the visor is also in brown twill wool, while the sweatband is in a butterscotch-coloured synthetic leather, the ends stitched together at the right rear and is marked in blue ink "138" on the left side. The interior of the kepi is lined in a champagne-coloured nylon, with a celluloid moisture shield stitched in place, stamped in silver ink with the uniform and cap manufacturer's logo and inscribed "C. Louis Weber UNIFORMEN UND MÜTZEN HANNOVER GEGR. 1862", the kepi measuring 230 mm x 190 mm x 100 mm overall. It exhibits scattered silvering wear on the aluminum eagle, soiling and wear on the butterscotch-coloured synthetic leather sweatband and on the champagne-coloured nylon lining from active use, with a red spot on the underside of the visor, along with a slight roll back on the twisted gold-coloured bullion wire at the right rear along the top edge. Better than extremely fine.
