Germany. An NSDAP Reichsleitung Level Visor Cap
An example of a Reichsleiter/National Leader visor cap, constructed of tan-coloured webbed fabric, with a traditional high peak and bright lemon yellow piping along the top of the crown, as well as above and below the cap band. The cap band itself is constructed of khaki coloured doeskin wool. The insignia of the cap consists of a gilt NSDAP cap eagle, with a gilt wreath and a separate cockade. The eagle is constructed of gilt bronze, while the wreath is constructed of gilt aluminum, with a separately attached metal partially enameled cockade within the wreath. The visor is constructed of vulkanfibre. It is lacquered with a glossy brown finish on the obverse with a rusty-brown and checkered underside. The chin cord is constructed of synthetic golden threading, consisting of a main cord crafted of multiple thick strands of twisted bullion cords, as well as two sliders constructed of four strands of thin twisted bullion cord, and is attached to either side of the cap via a gilded pebbled metal (magnetic) button. The interior of the cap is lined with a light gray fabric liner, with an unmarked celluloid maker’s diamond stitched into the centre of the interior. On the edge of the cap is a tan-coloured faux leather sweatband. Beneath it is a metal ring that gives the cap its round shape. The cap also used to have a sweat absorption sponge behind the sweatband, but it has deteriorated through time. It measures 260 mm (w) x 290 mm x 158 mm (h). The sweatband is badly cracked in numerous spot, but otherwise appearing only lightly worn; in overall very fine condition.
