Germany, Luftwaffe. A 1933-34 Silver Trophy Presented by Göring to Ski Jump Champion

Finely hand engraved "Fredy Stoll Dem Meister des Skiklubs (The Master of the Skiing Club) Berchtesgaden Winter 1933-34 Hermann Göring". Trophy is in silver, measuring 9.7 cm in height and weighing 289 grams, marker and silver hallmarked on bottom, extremely fine. Accompanied by a 1937 Skiing magazine outlining Alfred Stoll, 24 p., measuring 230x305mm, very fine condition with some fraying and tearing, damage to the spine, and a small piece of the front cover missing. It is a copy of Ski-Sport, the Illustrated Magazine for Ski Sport and Ski Tourism, vol. 2, issue 9, dated to Munich on January 12, 1937. It features a story about Alfred Stoll on page 17. Alfred “Fredy” Stoll was a ski jumper born in Berchtesgaden. He started his sports career relatively late in life, at age 18. Despite this, Stoll became the German champion in 1934, at home in Berchtesgaden. On this occasion, he was awarded the engraved cup by Göring as a special prize for the farthest jump of the day. In the article, he is described as a daredevil without fear, who not only jumps further than anybody else, but, by testimony of a friend, would also make a good race car driver and motorbike racer.
