A Pair of 162nd (3rd Hanseatic) (Lübeck) Infantry Epaulettes 1915

A Pair of 162nd (3rd Hanseatic) (Lübeck) Infantry Regiment, IX Army Corps Oberleutnant (1st Lieutenant) Epaulette Pair, c. 1915 - Dress pair "banjo" style, stiff-framed epaulettes with burlap supports forming the undersides, uppers in off-white felt, raised crescent-shaped copper gilted rim enclosing individual gilt aluminum numbers forming the number "162" with a single bronze gilt pip below, designing it as that of Oberleutnant, the protruding tabs trimmed in a 15 mm wide band of finely braided ribbon fabricated from silver bullion wire with black threading, reinforced button hole at the tab end, with red felt backers, measuring 122 mm x 152 mm each. Moderate soiling evident in the felt on both sides, moth hole in the white felt on one epaulette, light contact overall, very fine.   Footnote: The 162nd (3rd Hanseatic) (Lübeck) Infantry Regiment was raised on March 31, 1897 and was part of the IX Army Corps.
