A Franco-Prussian War Saxon Enlisted Man's Belt with Buckle and M1871 Bayonet

Buckle with a two-piece construction, die-stamped circular metal plate with a bronze wash mounted to a brass base, maker marked "G.H. OSANG DRESDEN" and dated "1914" on the reverse, illustrating the Saxon crown in the centre, surrounded by the inscription in Latin "PROVIDENTIAE MEMOR" (Providence Remembered), with crossed branches of laurel leaves tied together via a ribbon below, with a short leather tab with a smooth-finished dark brown upper attached to the roll bar, the buckle measuring 48.3 mm 62.5 mm. Belt in a thick leather, with a smooth-finished dark brown upper and brown underside, stamped "105" beside "181.R" on the underside at the right end, leather tab with a very smooth-finished dark brown upper stitched in place on the underside at the right end, the tab with seven rows of two holes each for length adjustment, matching brass receiving clip on the left end, measuring 43 mm x 1,100 mm. Belt buckle exhibits light contact and surface wear, crazing and wear on the leather items from active use. The M1871 knife bayonet measures 627 mm in length with the scabbard on, featuring a 465 mm long nickel-plated steel blade, magnetic, with a sharp edge and having a very sharp tip. There are fullers on both sides, the reverse ricasso maker marked "ALEX COPPEL SOLINGEN" (Alexander Coppel, Solingen). It exhibits mild scratches overall, common to extraction and return to the scabbard, with scattered wear spots, very fine. Crossguard with muzzle ring and quillon exhibits scattered surface rust in the nickel plating, the reverse of the crossguard stamped with the regimental marking "32.A.2.11.", brass grip with diagonal serrations on the obverse grip, while the reverse grip is smooth, the grip with an embedded press stud and mortise slot, contact marks on the pommel, the knife bayonet measuring 593 mm in length. Accompanied by its black leather-wrapped scabbard, brass chape and locket each held in place by a single staple, the chape with a ball finial and marked on the reverse with a crowned Gothic "D" (Deutschland), the locket with frog stud and stamped with the regimental marking "32.A.2.11.", matching that used on the knife bayonet's crossguard, the throat plate held in place by a single screw and marked with a crowned Gothic "W" (Wilhelm I) and a crowned Gothic "D" (Deutschland), the stitching intact in the leather on the reverse, the scabbard measuring 488 mm in length, with scattered surface wear on the brass hardware. The knife bayonet in its 55 mm x 220 mm dark brown leather holster, with four copper rivets, stamped "133.R. UK." on the reverse, exhibiting soiling and cracking at its mouth, with crazing overall. Very fine.
