Iron Cross 2nd Class 1914 (silver frame, with iron core, magnetic, maker marked "S-W" (Sy & Wagner, Berlin) on the ring, 43 mm); German Honour Medal (bronze gilt, 32 mm); Hindenburg Cross for Combatants (bronze gilt, non-magnetic, maker marked "Z" (unknown) on the reverse, 37.8 mm); and Wound Badge, Black Grade (blackened iron, magnetic, 38.5 mm x 43.5 mm, vertical pinback). Un-mounted, without ribbons, wear evident on the Wound Badge, better than very fine. Accompanied by his Military Pass (with various Bavarian and Prussian stamps, multiple handwritten entries, the text printed in black ink on a thin white paper stock, blue paper cover, 88 mm x 140 mm); a Hindenburg Cross for Combatants Award Document (dated November 8, 1934, numbered "186/34", printed in black ink on a white paper stock, 148 mm x 212 mm); his Kitzingen Volunteer Fire Department Membership Certificate (dated May 4, 1929, with six signatures of various officials, printed in black ink on an off-white card stock, 128 mm x 152 mm); his Admission Card to the Kitzingen Volunteer Fire Department (dated May 4, 1929, with three signatures of various officials, printed in forest green ink on a cream-colored card stock, 126 mm x 179 mm); his Certificate of Discharge from the Air Force (dated July 23, 1945, in English, right thumbprint and signature of Hummel in black ink, printed in black ink on a white paper stock, 203 mm x 326 mm); an Honour Roll for the Town of Kitzinger 1914-1918 (with a poem dedicated to the war dead, listing the 252 that lost their lives in the war, printed in black ink on an off-white paper stock, four pages, 168 mm x 228 mm, exhibiting a few tears along the fold marks and light soiling); and a Photograph of Hummel in Uniform (black and white, gloss finish, 64 mm x 110 mm).
Footnote: Phillip Hummel was born on August 15, 1894 in Kitzingen, Bavaria. He served with Infantry Regiment No. 168 during the First World War. After the war, he returned to Kitzinger and became a member of its Volunteer Fire Department. His Certificate of Discharge indicates that he was discharged from the "Air Force" (Luftwaffe) on July 23, 1945, the certificate confirming his date of birth as previously stated in his Military Pass, stating that he was a resident of Kitzingen, that he was Married, that his trade was that of Carpenter and that he had a Heart Ailment but that his condition was Satisfactory.
